Free QR code generator

Type a link or some text and download your QR code as a PNG, ready to print. No sign-up and no watermark.

Type a link or some text to see your code.

The code is made in your browser: what you type never leaves your device.

Printing it? Make it dynamic.

A static QR code has its destination baked in: change your site and you have to reprint. With linko, your QR code points to a short link: change the destination whenever you like, count the scans and, with Pro, add your colours and download SVG files.

What is a QR code?

A QR code is an image that stores some text, usually a web address. When you point a phone camera at it, the phone offers to open that link. It works without extra apps on iPhone and Android, which is why it shows up on restaurant menus, posters, packaging, business cards and tickets.

Static or dynamic QR codes: the difference that matters

The QR code you create on this page is static: the link is inside the image and cannot change. A dynamic QR code stores a short link, for example linko.sh/menu, that redirects wherever you decide.

With a dynamic QR code you can fix a mistake, switch menus or campaigns without reprinting, and see how many people scan it, from which country and on which device.

Tips for printing a QR code that works

  • Print it at least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 × 0.8 in). If people will scan it from afar, each side should be at least a tenth of the distance.
  • Keep strong contrast: a dark code on a light background.
  • Leave the white margin around the code.
  • Test the code with several phones before printing every copy.
  • Next to the code, say what people will find: “Scan to see the menu”.

FAQ

Do QR codes expire?

A static QR code never expires: it works as long as the link inside it works. A dynamic QR code depends on the service that redirects it; on linko, your links never expire unless you set them to.

Can I use it commercially?

Yes. The codes you create here are yours to use anywhere, without attribution.

Do you store what I type?

No. The code is created in your browser and the text is never sent to our servers.

How do I know how many people scan it?

A static QR code cannot tell you. If you create it with linko, every scan appears in your statistics as “QR code”.
